The Ships Poster is the second in a suite of three posters designed to promote the Pictorial Webster’s; an artist’s book of all that was in America of the 19th Century – engraved and alphabetized. Because 19th Century America derived so much wealth from and had such a familiarity with the sea, it is not surprising that there is a preponderance of sea-related images in the dictionaries. Drawing from this richness, the three posters Quercus Press printed are the Fishes poster released in 2000, the Ships poster created in 2001, and the Mollusks poster created in 2002.
The uncolored poster is $50. The hand-colored poster is $500.
